Does anyone know the procedure for outputting to video (to record ) using this card. I am using premiere 5.1 and have the latest miro drivers installed. The capture is working fine as is premiere itself but no signal output from either the composite out or the preferred s vhs out. This is definetely a software setting problem ( unusually the sound seems to be outputting ok
cheers

please somebody hellllllpppp
p.s. i am using the voodoo 3 2000 card and the test capture shows rate of 10,000 kbs and all clips have no dropped frames whatsoever. in premiere i go to file>export>print to video and set time for color bars etc then the thing plays on the monitor fine but no output from card.

Are you using Premiere or the software that came with your Capturing card to export to vcr/tv? I have tried exporting in Premiere with no success but can capture fine. I have always just imported/exported with the given software and used Premiere for strictly editing. After all, they designed software JUST for your card and it might perform better than Premiere importing/exporting.

Before you export to video shut down premier and try going to the miro dc 30 tools
and select the configuration program.
Switch off the screen viewer (cant remember what its called, its the setting on the right, you can choose, high res, low res or off).
I find that if its set up so you can see the film when its being captured, nothing gets printed to tape.
If you cant then it prints fine.

It took me absolutely AGES to work out how to print to video from Premiere using the DC-30. I had all kinds of problems, and even now I get a picture on my video tape but no sound. I think it's because Premiere is playing audio through my sound card, not through the DC-30. It's a real pain. Have you remembered to switch the leads over from "input" to "output"? That's something I keep forgetting to do!

I've got a DC30 and it bloody fantastic. Never had one problem with it - installed like a dream, and due to the MiroVideo software doesn't take an eternity to render a film.
don't have a bad thing to say about it.
In regards to outputting video with no sound, go to Control Panel-->Multimedia and under Playback, switch the preferred device from your soundcard to the DC30.
When you playback, unless you've speakers are plugged into the DC30, you'll get no sound, but it will output to tape, as well as the footage.
In regards to not being able to output video...umm.....have you tried simply previewing the footage (press Enter), and then once that's finished, recording to tape while it plays back?
Cheers - hope SOME of this might help someone, somewhere

For anyone interested in the solution to this problem: I have since found that any sound problems are indeed due to the multimedia settings in control panel not being set to "DC30".
The playback output pressing the enter key will not output to a connecting tv unless "Miro instant video " is enabled. This can only be enabled at the begginning of a project by selecting the "DC30 for editing mode and not video for windows.
Finally the "print to video" isnt the best way to get output. It is best to go file>export>movie and save as avi file . Then simply playback at your leisure using any program ( i find media player is very smooth )
The above has been the accumulation of 7 days messing about with every setting! Unfortunately the manual and help files are no help whatsoever and this seems to be blamed on the fact that Pinnacle /Miro and adobe are all different companies that just so happen to bundle their stuff together and hope it works! ( i would be damned if i was going to phone their help line )
Anyway alls working well and anyone looking for a cheap but powerful non linear home editing system should really consider the DC30.

I agree, it can be really frustrating learning the ins and outs, (less of a learning curve more a learning wall) but once you've got it, you have it forever.
Im using a dc30 and premier and I think they are great. You must keep defragmenting the drive though, its gets pretty hammered and I started getting crashes until I downloaded a free defragger to clean up.

would you recommend saving as an AVI and then exporting to videotape rather than export straight to video?

Hi eddie
I normally save to avi and then shut everything down and run the avi from media player. I find that the frame runs nice and smooth. The only drawback is the size of the avi file. Obviously a less detailed avi would make it smaller but hey its quality we're all after. So outputting using the enter key is great for speed but sometimes little hitches can occur like the odd stutter or sound going slightly out of sync (mmmmm.......i know i've not quite mastered every problem)
p.s. have you noticed how tempramental miro instant video is in relation to certain files (and resolutions) I was editing a quick time low res movie (from the net) for fun and instant video did not want to preview. It would preview graphics that i had superimposed but not the vide itself. For some unknown reason it accepted it when i put a graphic of total bluescreen in a video track and made it completely transparent.......doh. I put the graphic in just to take it away again
great fun!
see ya
